Private Equity and Venture Capital in the Middle East - 2009 Report
KPMG here in the UAE, in association with the Gulf Venture Capital Association and Zawya, launched the 2009 report on Private Equity and Venture Capital in the Middle East on 20 July 2010. The report compiles comprehensive information and statistics about private equity funds and investments across the region, and contains various Thought Leadership articles on current topics in the industry. It also provides a section dedicated to the results of a survey of private equity fund managers regarding their views looking back at 2009 and ahead to 2010.
As expected, the report shows that 2009 was a difficult year for fund raising, and investments by private equity were well down on the peaks seen in 2007 and 2008. In terms of investments, the most popular destinations to date have been Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE and defensive sectors dominated 2009 with the majority of acquisitions focusing on healthcare, transport and power and utilities.
In addition to the 2009 data, the report looks forward to 2010 and what is seen as being a much more successful year.
